Drifting Through a Dream: I

from €280.00

Following the project The Boundless Dance of Colors, I set out to add a new layer of emotion and imagination — by introducing real fish beneath the bursts of paint. It was a way of blending stillness with movement, nature with structure, and dream with reality.

The challenges began early on: selecting fish that could be clearly identified from above while swimming. I chose koi fish for their elegant shape, symbolic presence, and vivid color.

To create the structure, I used a large 120-liter aquarium — a delicate setup that had to be properly lit both inside the tank and on the surface, without allowing any paint to enter the water or harm the fish.

For throwing the paint-filled balls, I reused the same custom device I built for the first part of the project — one that enables multiple balls to be launched simultaneously into paint containers. But this time, the unpredictable movement of the fish added a new level of complexity.

When the timing or composition wasn’t right — when the fish weren’t in the desired position or the color splash missed the frame — everything had to be reset: cleaning, arranging, and waiting again.

Despite the difficulties, the outcome was astonishing. These images are not only about color, but about life itself.

In each frame, fish drift like calm spirits beneath explosions of vibrant paint — as if a dream has taken form in matter.

And most of all, the process of making this series, with all its intensity, was deeply joyful and full of wonder.
